The office is coming along nicely, still work to be done, but it will be a great place to call home for Synergy for the next several years. Still located in one of my favorite work environments – downtown Chico. Sharing office space are some good friends and highly creative people; David Hughes – master web guru, Michael Woodward – html/css/drupal magician, Frank Espinoza – design star, Bruce Coykendall – audio/visual noodler, and Lisa Fitts – photo girl.

I’ll try to get some photos up of the new place as soon as I get around to it. Which should be before 2012.

I am proud of many things that I have accomplished, but one professional thing that I would say is at the top of the list would be winning an Emmy® – actually – two Emmys®.

A lot of people ask about them; how I got them, what they were for, and so on.  Well, my intent is to answer these questions here.  We’ll start with the first Emmy®.

My first Emmy® is a 2005 Los Angeles Area Awards Emmy® for Instructional Programming.  What a mouthful. Proof can be found here.  It was for my work as associate producer on the 20 part series Astronomy: Observations & Theories.  I was also the lead editor, graphic designer and did the majority of the visualizations / animations on the project.  This series was produced by Coast Learning Systems of Costa Mesa and in addition to airing on Public Television in southern California, it is also part of an accredited college course, hence the award for instructional programming.

Emmy® awards are awarded the year after the program airs.  So, 2005 Emmys® are awarded in the fall of 2006, which is when I received mine.  There are three Emmy® ceremonies; the Prime-times, Day-times, and L.A. Area.  The L.A. Area ceremony is held on campus at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Hollywood, CA.  We attended the ceremony there, had a wonderful dinner for all of the attendees afterwards and really had a great time.

After I was awarded with my first Emmy®, I changed my email signature for a while to this quote, which sums it all up:

“The Emmy will have no effect on me, in the sense that I will still have to wash my own bowl after breakfast.”

This is a documentary I produced for the Butte County Department of Behavioral Health. Shot over the course of a year, it dives into the problem of underage drinking and binge drinking in our county. Shows the effects on youth, families, the city and society.

This is a video I produced for Odyssey Teams, a great company I do work for that is dedicated to changing the way people show up to work everyday, through unique and impactful team-building and corporate training.  This is for one of their Philanthropic Team-building programs in which participants build prosthetic hands that will go to land mine victims in third-world countries.  Learn more at odysseyteams.com
